IFCHOR GALBRAITHS (IG) has launched Coal 360, a new market intelligence service providing detailed analysis of the global seaborne coal trade and its implications for commodity and shipping markets.
The latest addition to IG’s expanding Commodities 360 research series, alongside Iron Ore 360, Agri 360 and Bauxite 360, examines the world’s principal coal producing, exporting and importing countries, covering historical trade flows, major producers, ports and terminals, vessel deployment, seasonal patterns and forecasts through 2030.
Designed for shipowners, charterers, commodity traders, producers and financial institutions, Coal 360 combines extensive data and analysis with regular updates and access to IG’s Research & Advisory team.
The launch comes at a time of significant change in global coal markets. IG’s accompanying Coal Markets Companion Report reveals that global seaborne coal exports increased by 3% year-on-year in January–September 2026, reversing a 4% decline in 2025.

Despite falling thermal coal imports into China and India, demand elsewhere in Asia has strengthened, partly in response to disruption to LNG supplies. Meanwhile, the metallurgical coal trade has expanded by 10%, highlighting the increasingly different dynamics of individual coal markets.
Report author Laura Gomez, IG Research & Advisory, commented:
“Coal is far from being a single market. Different grades, producing countries and importing regions are following increasingly divergent paths. Coal 360 brings these developments together, helping clients understand not just how the market is changing, but what those changes mean for commodity flows and shipping.”
Coal 360 forms part of IG’s continued investment in research-led services, providing clients with deeper market intelligence to support trading, chartering and investment decisions.
