Guinea bauxite loadings slump as Winning shifts transhipment capacity to Simandou

Guinea’s bauxite loadings slumped to 1.3 Mt/wk last week, down -50% WoW and -38% YoY.

The decline partly reflects Winning’s relocation of its transshipment vessel Winning Simandou 3 from Kamsar to Morebaya, reducing bauxite loading capacity while supporting the Simandou iron ore ramp-up.

Seasonal weather and weaker bauxite market conditions also weighed on shipments.

In contrast, iron ore activity around Morebaya remains firm, with three vessels loading simultaneously and each departing ship replaced immediately, signalling a gradual acceleration in exports.

Over the longer term, Guinea continues to promote domestic alumina refining, with authorities stepping up efforts to accelerate local processing projects.
